Business support for landscaping and horticulture businesses.

Helping landscaping business owners build clarity, structure and steady progress.

I work with landscaping and horticulture businesses across the UK, helping owners

Running a successful landscaping business requires far more than delivering great work. It requires clear direction, strong systems, effective leadership and the confidence to make good decisions.

Why Landscaping & Horticulture?

My connection to the landscaping and horticulture sector started long before Steady Consulting.

I've always loved being outdoors and have long understood the positive impact that gardens and outdoor spaces can have on both physical and mental wellbeing. At a particularly difficult point in my own life, my garden became an important place of calm, perspective and recovery.

After leaving John Lewis Partnership, I spent some time volunteering before taking a part-time role with a local landscaping business - initially simply to stay active, learn new skills and avoid sitting at home wondering what to do next.

But it didn't take long before I found myself naturally drawn towards the business itself.

I could see the pressure the owner was under, the frustrations within the team and a number of operational challenges that were limiting the business and creating unnecessary stress.

My instinct was to help - the same way I naturally would have within my own teams and leadership roles throughout my career.

What started as informal conversations soon became the opportunity to begin shaping the practical support, frameworks and approach that would later become Steady Consulting.

Over time, that exposure led me to work with more landscaping and horticulture businesses across the UK - including landscaping contractors, garden designers and landscape architects - and confirmed something that still drives me today:

Helping business owners build stronger, calmer and more sustainable businesses, whilst supporting the creation of incredible outdoor spaces, feels like a genuinely rewarding combination.

Over the past few years, I've worked hard to immerse myself within the industry - building relationships, understanding the challenges business owners face and becoming a recognised and trusted presence within the sector.

Alongside my client work, I'm actively involved in the industry through organisations and events including:

  • Association of Professional Landscapers (APL)

  • British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI)

  • Professional Garden Consultants Association (PGCA)

  • Perennial Partner

  • Pro Landscaper Business Awards Judge

  • FutureScape Speaker, Panellist and Host

MY BUSINESS MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK

The Foundations

  • Vision, Mission & Values

  • Understanding Current Performance

  • Annual Goals & Quarterly Actions

These are the long-term elements that give your business direction and stability.

The Four Core Pillars

  • Strategy

  • Customer

  • Operations

  • People

These are the essential areas every business must manage well.

I use this framework to bring structure, focus and clarity to your business - without the jargon or complexity.

This helps bring clarity, structure and focus - particularly for businesses that feel reactive rather than planned.

HOW WE TYPICALLY
WORK TOGETHER

The initial Discovery Session is a chance for us to get to know each other - for me to understand your business, and for you to get a feel for how I work.

From there, if we decide to move forward, the support typically follows a structured path - moving from clarity through to action and ongoing improvement.

1) Define - Discovery and clarity

We start by stepping back from the day-to-day to understand your business properly - your challenges, your opportunities and what you want to achieve.

Through the Steps to Success programme, we define your vision, review your current position and create a clear sense of direction.

2) Develop - Building the plan

We turn that clarity into a focused, practical plan - setting priorities, defining goals and creating a roadmap for moving your business forward with confidence.

3) Deliver - Making progress

From there, we continue working together through ongoing support - helping you stay focused, make decisions and turn plans into consistent progress.

This is where ideas become action.

4) Evolve - Adapting and growing

As your business develops, the support evolves too.

Some business owners benefit from regular accountability and an external perspective, whilst others choose a more involved strategic support relationship. Together we'll agree the right level of support to help you continue moving forward with confidence.

NOT SURE WHICH
IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Most small business owners aren’t sure what they need at first - and that’s completely normal.

The easiest next step is a short, relaxed conversation where we talk about your business, your challenges and what support might be most helpful.

“Working with Neil as my business coach was the best investment I've made. I was struggling with scaling my service business—my income was inconsistent, and my days were chaotic. Neil provided incredible clarity and helped me develop effective client acquisition strategies and processes that actually work.”
